Grade Level/ or Age Level: 5-7
Classification: Non-FictionThis story of how one ting leads to another. In his autobiographical book about music's role in a young boy's life, Mark Alan Stamaty gives young readers a unique perspective on how a present for his eighth birthday changed his life forever. Stamaty's radio opened the door for listening to the music of the 1950s which included the songs of Elvis Presley. Though his mom strongly opposed her son's exposure to rock- and- roll, she saw how much Elvis's music meant to her son, and eventually gave in to his desire to own Elvis's music records. Through his comic- strip style portrayal of the early years, Stamaty creatively illustrates his adoration of the musical king, his admiration of other '50s musical greats, and how he gained the admiration of peers and his parents by re-staging his hero in public.
