The book OUT AND ABOUT AT THE ZOO describes a field trip to learn about different animals, the places where they live and how they are cared for. It starts with a list the children have made of things to find out when they are at the zoo. Who cares for these animals? Can they be fed or petted by the children? What happens to animals when they are sick? How does the zoo keep visitors safe? The children start on their field trip at the zoo visiting the lions as the zoo keeper is explaining their habitat. The children are curious about the zoo. The zoo keeper is very specific in his tour with the children. He explains the animals' habitats and how they make them as close to their wild habitats as possible. The children are told no one is allowed to feed the animals but the zoo keepers. This book would be and excellent selection for children going to the zoo for the first time.
