Xena and Xander, descendants of Sherlock Holmes, can't turn down a mystery to solve. Using their ancestor Holmes' diary, the brother and sister do successfully solve the unsolvable mysteries even Holmes left unfinished. Xander's classmate Karim calls upon the pair to find the famous amulet that turns back time. While working to solve this case, Xena and Xander are victims of another mystery , the school thief. Together, they endure precarious situations to solve both mysteries while learning about Egyptian history.

I highly recommend this novel for middle school readers because the author portrays the characters as typical student teens with parents, school responsibilities, and reputations to keep. Readers will naturally learn more about the Egyptian culture, and the writing style had me turning pages.
