PAUL BUNYAN AND BABE THE BLUE OX
Author (last name first):Luckhurst, Matt
Publisher,Date of Publication: Abrams/2012
Grade Level/ or Age Level:
4th-6th Grades
Classification:
Fiction
This book is about Paul Bunyan and his best friend Babe the Blue Ox. The two friends loved pancakes and refused to eat any other foods. Paul's mom got tired of making pancakes for them everyday as if it was taking away from her garden time. As a result of this Paul and Babe left to find jobs which would allow them to eat pancakes. Eventually, they both began feeling ill and was admonished to eat other foods. It was then that they decided to return home and eat mom's healthy food.
This book would be suggested for fourth and sixth graders as the language is more complex. The use of pictures helped make the content easier to understand. Also, the reference to well known places in the world was good (e.g) Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountains) to support the existence of these places. It was suggested that the Rocky Mountains came about because they ate pancakes out unevenly. At that age students should not be reading this information to prevent confusion.
