This book tells the incredible adventures of Sarah Edmonds who takes on the persona of Frank Thompson and joins the Union Army during the Civil War. She starts by fighting alongside the men. She is able to deal with horrific conditions in the medical areas and so is chosen as a nurse who removed the wounded from the battlefields and help in surgery. Later, the chaplain asks her to serve as a spy. As a spy she completed 11 missions. The book closes with a very interesting author's note about the rest of Sarah Edmand's life. The illustrator's note tells about his collection of artwork to accurate depictions to follow the story. There is a glossary, an index, a bibliography to close out this book. There is an AR test for this book.
