This would be a good book to teach young children about the value of friendship and about the consequences of turning your back on friends when they need you the most. The illustrations are large and help bring the text to life. It does contain some literary elements and would be good to use as an example of how authors use them in their writing for 5th-7th graders. I would recommend if it is being looked at for students to read; it should be in a library available for grades 2nd - 4th.
